Ouray 100

Ouray 100

After being sent off course in the early miles of the 2016 Ouray 100 Mile Endurance Run, professional ultrarunner Avery Collins finds himself near last place at one of the most difficult trail races in the world. Rather than accepting likely defeat, Avery chooses to spend the next 90 miles enduring foul weather and high-altitude terrain in a daring attempt to reclaim his lead. The mountain town of Ouray, known as the Switzerland of America, is situated in a small valley in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. Rugged rock formations tower above the town and its natural hot springs. Established in 2014, the Ouray 100 has nearly 42,000 feet of ascent (84,000 feet of cumulative change) and an average elevation of nearly two miles above sea level. Technical trails and a no-frills approach only add to the race’s difficulty.
